On Saturday, July 15, the Duneland Business Initiative Group will sponsor Bark in the Park, from 9 a.m., to 3 p.m., in Thomas Centennial Park, downtown Chesterton.

Owners and pooches who bear a physical resemblance to each other, anyone who can do a good Lassie-bark and all dogs that know some old tricks are invited to join in.

Brush that coat, and polish those nails and put the best paw forward to vie for valuable prizes in fun contests that will run from Noon -1:00 p.m. on the west side of the Bandstand. There will be four contests: Best Dressed Dog, Owner-Dog Look Alike, Best Trick, and Best Human Barkers (adults and kids!).

No registration is necessary, and contests are free to enter. Contest prizes are provided by Chesterton Feed and Garden and the Duneland Business Initiative group.

Both canines and kids will have a blast splashing and looking for the lucky duck in the Duck Hunt game, where every player will win a prize.

Stop by the PawCasso booth, where your pooch can paint a masterpiece just for you.

Enjoy a pet-friendly day in the park, visit booths featuring local shelters, and regional pet rescue organizations, specialized pet services in the area, and pet merchandise and treats.

K-9 cooling

Many water bowls will be placed around the park. A special water mist area will be available at the southeast end of the park for overheated hounds and humans.

There will always be something going on, so come on out to the park for some doggone good fun!
