Alley Oop for Autism after CHS girls basketball Friday

Back To Front Page

The fourth annual Alley Oop for Autism will be held after the Chesterton High School varsity girls basketball team (16-1) plays DAC rival LaPorte HS, at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at the CHS gym.

Students from Jessica Evans’ special education class will be scrimmaging to promote community, service, and education in support of autism awareness.

For this year’s installment--organized by Paul Petro, Evelyn Pabon, Haley Vale, and John Petro--Evans’ class has tie-dyed the tee-shirts which will be worn by the cheerleaders as well as by the CHS boys and girls varsity teams during warm-ups. Scrimmagers will take the court through a tunnel formed by students and a banner made by Bailly Elementary fourth-grade teacher Cris Petro’s class, while the pep band plays on the sideline.

Then, after the scrimmage, Evans’ students will return the favor and form the tunnel for the CHS boys varsity team (9-3) prior to its 7 p.m. tip-off.

Folks are invited to attend the Alley Oop for Autism, and information on autism education and tie-dyed tee-shirts will be available in the lobby. “As a community, let’s come out and support the event and demonstrate the Duneland Difference!”
