Community members and participants at this year’s American Cancer Society
Relay for Life of Duneland are asked to bring donations of canned goods. The
cans will be used to anchor each luminaria bag during the Luminaria Ceremony
at 9 p.m. Friday. After the Relay is over, the donations will be given to
the Westchester Neighbors Food Pantry and Housing Opportunities.
The Luminaria Ceremony is an important part of the Relay for Life by
providing the opportunity to remember loved ones lost to cancer and honor
those who have won their battle. At dusk, the track will be brightened by
the glow of each illuminated luminaria bag. Each one has been dedicated and
represents someone special who has been profoundly affected by cancer and
the family and friends who continue to fight back in their honor.
Luminaria bags are available at the following locations in Chesterton:
Duneland Resale, 801 Broadway; Centier Bank,; Chesterton/Duneland Chamber of
Commerce, 220 Broadway; Chesterton Tribune, 193 S. Calumet Road;
Peggy Sue’s Diner,; UPS Store, 701 Plaza Drive. Luminaria bags may also be
purchased at the event and decorated until 8:30 p.m.
