The 55th annual Chesterton Art Fair will be held Saturday and Sunday, August
3-4 at Hawthorne Park in Porter, Ind. The hours of the fair are 10 a.m. to 5
p.m. each day. Admission charge is $5 per person for the entire event.
Parking is free.
First time participant Jayde Peterson will be showcasing her wire-wrapped,
artisan jewelry, including pendants, necklaces, bracelets and earrings.
Peterson began her artistic career with a striking beach stone, "My desire
to create a setting for that wonderful stone - to get it out of my pocket
and around my neck - began my journey as a jewelry designer, and I haven't
put the pliers down since!" When designing a piece, Peterson spends time
"contemplating the color, shape and texture of the item before I begin
crafting its final form".
Custom work a favorite assignment because of the personal connection to the
customer. At her booth, Peterson will offer a variety of beach glass that
can be custom wrapped and worn out the same day! "A woman chooses her
jewelry to reflect who she is inside. To have someone ask me to craft a
piece she will wear is the highest compliment someone can pay me."
Peterson finds many of her materials along the lakeshore and incorporates
vintage beads and trinkets found while antiquing in the Duneland community.
She is excited to be a part of the Chesterton Art Fair this year. "I am
absolutely in love with Chesterton and the dunes. I think people who are
from here get it. Our local artists share that love of our beautiful
landscape, and I know that being amongst these wonderful people is so good
for my soul!"
Other local participating artists from Chesterton include Chris Acton
(weaver), Mary Acton (Pysanky eggs), Rita Jackson (ceramics), and MaryAnn
