2 Duneland students test positive Thursday

Two more Duneland students have tested positive for COVID-19, the Duneland School Corporation (DSC) is reporting. Both are Chesterton High School students.

A remote student tested positive for COVID-19, it was announced Thursday afternoon. The administration, in consultation with the Porter County Health Department, conducted contact tracing measures, and two (2) individuals have been identified as close contacts and will be quarantined for 14 days.

A second CHS student tested positive for COVID-19 later that same afternoon. The administration, in consultation with the Porter County Health Department, has conducted contact tracing, finding four (4) individuals have been identified as close contacts and will be quarantined for 14 days.

“Please be aware that privacy laws, including HIPAA and FERPA, prevent us from sharing further information regarding students and staff," DSC said.

According to the Chesterton Tribune’s records, 40 DSC students or staffers have tested positive since classes began:

-- Chesterton High School: 20 students.

-- Chesterton Middle School: four students.

-- Westchester Intermediate School: two students; one staffer.

-- Liberty Elementary: two students.

-- Liberty Intermediate: three staffers.

-- Yost Elementary: two students; one staffer.

-- Bailly Elementary: three students.

-- Jackson Elementary: one student.

-- Brummitt Elementary: one student.
