14 new C19 cases in county and 743 in state

The Porter County Health Department was reporting this morning 14 new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours (23 new cases on Tuesday), to bring the total so far to 985, up from 971 on Tuesday.

Of those 14 new cases, 12--or 86 percent--were diagnosed among the younger demographics: five in the 0-19 (83 total); four in the 20-29 (194 total); one in the 30-39 (157 total); and two in the 40-49 (158 total).

To date, COVID-19 has been diagnosed in 78 children or teens in Porter County, or 8.4 percent of all cases (8.0 percent of all cases on Tuesday).

Meanwhile, two patients are currently hospitalized, unchanged from Tuesday; and 828 have recovered, up from 827 on Tuesday. Total active cases right now In Porter County: 118, up from 105 on Tuesday.

No additional deaths were reported today. So far a total of 39 patients have died of COVID-19 in Porter County.

As the Chesterton Tribune has been reporting, the surge in newcases over the previous five weeks has not been accompanied by increased hospitalizations or deaths.

To date, 101 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Porter County's long-term care facilities, 27 have died, and  no one is currently hospitalized, all unchanged from Tuesday. Seventy-four have recovered, up from 73 on Tuesday.

Health Department Adds Clarifications

The Health Department has newly added the following clarifications to its dashboard:

-- Positive cases are the number of individuals who get tested and have a positive test result. If an individual has multiple tests and receives multiple positive test results, it only counts as one positive case.

-- Positive antibody tests are not reported as positive cases.

Duneland cases by township:

-- Westchester: 78 cases (77 on Tuesday). Ten active cases.

-- Liberty: 48 cases (46 on Tuesday). Eight active cases.

-- Jackson: six cases (unchanged from Monday). Two active cases.

-- Pine: Seven cases, none of them active.

Other Townships

-- Portage: 374 cases (368 on Tuesday).

-- Center: 272 cases (268 on Tuesday).

-- Washington: 65 cases (65 on Tuesday).

-- Union: 47 cases (46 on Monday).


State has 743 new cases and 14 deaths

The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) was reporting this morning 763 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours (734 new cases on Tuesday), to bring the total so far to 58,673, up from 57,916 on Tuesday.

ISDH was also reporting 17 additional COVID-19 deaths over the last 24 hours (22 additional deaths on Tuesday), to bring the total to date to 2,869, up from 2,852 on Tuesday.

Nursing home cases and deaths to date: 5,833 cases and 1,262 deaths, unchanged from Tuesday.

Marion County has the most reported cases, 13,094 (12,991 on Tuesday); and the most deaths, 711 (709). Lake County has reported 6,379 cases (6,277) and 258 deaths (256), the second highest in the state in both categories. LaPorte County has reported 706 cases and 28 deaths (699 and 28).

The total COVID-19 death count includes both confirmed and presumptive deaths to date. Presumptive deaths are those for which x-ray, scans, and clinical symptoms all point to COVID-19 but for which no positive test is on record. A total of 197 presumptive deaths was reported today, up from 194 on Tuesday.
