Opportunity Enterprises has purchased 158 acres at Lake Eliza in Porter Township to be used for expanded day services and recreational activities.

OE, a non-profit agency serving the developmentally disabled, will open a new facility to be known as Lakeview, which will include a 13,000 square foot program center. The initial phase will open this spring with the relocation of OE’s senior adult program, the Renewed Horizons Adult Day Center, and the Enriching Possibilities activity program.

Also planned are wellness programs, outdoor education and diversified recreation activities.

“It allows us to expand our current operations and serve the increasing number of individuals seeking services in Porter County and Northwest Indiana,” said OE President/CEO Gary Mitchell.

OE has purchased the lake property and adjacent land from First National Bank. OE said the purchase came about through the support from the OE Board of Directors, the Welter family and key donors.

The expansion will provide additional capacity to serve more individuals at both OE sites. "This opportunity demonstrates Opportunity Enterprises’ long-standing commitment to innovative program and services. As we move forward, we will also explore what our facility needs are and create unique partnerships to provide services for all ages and abilities,” Mitchell said.
