Urschel Laboratories Inc. will break ground on Thursday, July 11, on its new
facility in Coffee Creek Center.
The ceremony is scheduled for 12 p.m.
“We look forward to starting another chapter in Urschel history by breaking
ground on July 11 at what will become our new manufacturing and global
headquarters,” Rick Urschel, vice-president of operations, said in a
statement released over the weekend.
Founded in 1910, Urschel Laboratories is the global leader in food-cutting
technology, and has been at its present location in Valparaiso since 1958.
The company “has experienced tremendous growth over the years and has
expanded the facility over 28 times to equal its current size,” the
statement said. “The area surrounding the current manufacturing plant has
also continued to grow, leaving the facility landlocked.”
Earlier this month, Urschel Laboratories closed on the purchase of 160 acres
at Coffee Creek Center.
As part of Thursday’s ceremony, the company’s more than 300 employed have
received an invitation to participate and will be bussed to the current site
from Valparaiso, where after a brief lunch specially engraved shovels will
be handed out as employees and invited guests “hollow out a giant Urschel
logo in the footprint of the new building.”
Urschel Laboratories is “an engineering-driven company” which “continues to
partner with leading food processors to discover the latest in food-cutting
advances,” the statement said.
