The Steel Barrel Tavern, at 212 Lincoln Street in Porter, invites the public, age 21 and over, to help them celebrate their official grand opening on Saturday, June 29, starting at 3 p.m. The event will feature local musicians Double Tap Live, Gerry Hundt, Ron Buffington and Nickel Dime. There is no cost to attend and free food will be provided while it lasts.

The new owners purchased the bar in March and re-opened in early April under the former name and license while the transfer of the license was being completed. The transfer has now been officially approved, and the new sign will be installed this week.

The purchase is exceptionally exciting for owner, Kensey Alsman, who had been looking into purchasing a tavern for about a year. “I used to come to this place when it was Saturday’s Child in the 60’s to see Ron Buffington play.” Alsman recalled. “It really worked out perfectly. This was the place I really wanted to own. It’s a neighborhood bar.” Ron Buffington is one of the musicians playing the Grand Opening event.

Weather permitting; the entertainment will be outside on the patio. Double Tap Live, featuring Steve Villigran and Jay Alsman, will play from 3 to 6 p.m. Gerry Hundt will be playing from 6-8 p.m., followed by Ron Buffington until 9 p.m. The day’s entertainment will close out with Nickel Dime, featuring Mandalyn Bensen and Norm Daisy.
