A member of United
Steelworkers Local 6787 died on Friday of injuries sustained in a fall at
the basic oxygen furnace at ArcelorMittal USA’s Burns Harbor facility.
Coroner Chuck Harris identified the man as Kenneth Gish, 61, of Wanatah.
Gish was working on
a scaffold around mid-afternoon when he fell approximately 15 feet, Harris
personnel responded and immediately facilitated transportation to a local
hospital,” an ArcelorMittal spokesperson said in a statement released to the
subsequently pronounced dead at Porter Regional Hospital, Harris said, and
the Coroner’s Office notified at 3:47 p.m.
An autopsy was
scheduled for this morning, Harris added.

joint investigation to determine the cause of this unfortunate accident,”
the spokesperson said. “The ArcelorMittal family extends our deepest
