INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana’s unemployment rate moved up slightly to 8.0
percent for June, marking the first increase since last summer.
Figures released Friday by the state Department of Workforce Development
show Indiana’s jobless rate went up from May’s 7.9 percent, with nearly
266,000 people looking for jobs last month.
The state’s jobless rate has been going down steadily since it was at 9.3
percent last August. The new state rate is slightly below the national mark
of 8.2 percent.
State officials say Indiana has a job growth rate of 1.5 percent so far this
year, topping the national rate of 0.9 percent.
Eastern Indiana’s Fayette County has the state’s highest unemployment mark
for June at 11.4 percent.
