Duneland’s Hometown Holiday Celebration will be held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Event celebrations are coordinated by the Duneland Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Town of Chesterton, the Chesterton Police, Parks, and Street Departments, and the Chamber organizations and volunteers.

Enjoy shopping the outdoor holiday market starting at 11:00 a.m. and running until 7:00 p.m. While there enjoy free carriage rides through historic downtown Chesterton beginning at 11:00 a.m. and going until 2:00 p.m. Both will take place in the Chamber parking lot at 220 Broadway, Chesterton.

The Tree Lighting Ceremony is set to begin at 5:00 p.m., in Thomas Centennial Park, to kick off the parade. Enrico Ortega-Chick, a fifth-grade student of Mrs. Lindsey Darnell, is the winner of the essay contest. He will not only be lighting the tree but will also be the grand marshal of the parade.

Following the Tree Lighting Ceremony, the Twilight Christmas Parade will step off from Chesterton Middle School at 5:15 p.m. Floats in this night-time parade will include all manner of lighted cars, trucks, wagons, and fire engines, as well as plenty of families and service organizations walking the route. Impressively decorated fire engines will round out the lineup, with Santa Claus himself making an appearance on the final float.

Santa Claus will be receiving visitors in his Duneland house on Broadway, in Thomas Centennial Park, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Children may also visit Santa every Saturday leading up to Christmas, from 10:00 a.m. to Noon and from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

To continue the celebration on this local shopping weekend, the Chamber has scheduled a Retailer’s Open House with many businesses staying open until 7:00 p.m. that evening.

Eat and shop your way across Duneland all day, with many participating businesses offering special Small Business Saturday deals. Shoppers should visit the Duneland Chamber’s information booth, which will be set up within the Holiday Market, to receive a “shop small” bag with details for the day that includes an open house map and other information, while supplies last.
