Domestic steel shipments down 8 percent in September

The American Iron and Steel Institute is reporting that in September, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,767,310 net tons (NT), a 8.3-percent decrease from August and a 0.6-percent decrease from the year-ago period.

Shipments in the year-to-date are 72,577,746 NT, a 1.6 percent-increase over the first nine months of 2018.

Significant month-over-month changes in September shipments include the following: cold-rolled sheets, down 5 percent; hot-dipped galvanized sheets and strip, down 9 percent; and hot-rolled sheets, down 10 percent.
