needed for the Duneland Chamber of Commerce’s annual Reality Store, from
7:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, at Chesterton High School, 2125
S. 11th St.
For more than 20
years, the Reality Store has been advising eighth-graders on how to be
successful in life after graduation, by giving them a predetermined salary
that they would earn in their chosen profession at age 28. The students then
visit tables where they pay such expenses as taxes, housing, and child care.
Some end up in bankruptcy, others may have a little money left over at the
end, and those with remaining funds can “spend” their money on imaginary
rewards, like investments, trips, concerts, motorcycles, and so on.
The Reality Store
is organized by the PIE (Partners In Education) Committee of the Duneland
Chamber of Commerce and the Duneland School Corporation.
The event is in
need of 70 more volunteers, who are welcome to take part in the Reality
Store for either a half a day or the whole day. Morning sessions are from
7:30 to 11:45 a.m., and afternoon sessions from 11:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
Breakfast and lunch
are provided for volunteers. Volunteers should contact Michelle Hunsley at
the Chamber at 926-5513 or at
