A Chesterton resident attending Purdue University was seriously injured on Monday while bicycling in Lafayette.

At 11:20 a.m. Andrew Fant, a 21-year-old sophomore, was bicycling on Memorial Mall Drive, entering from a grassy area, when he collided with a city bus, Purdue University spokesperson Jeanne Norberg told the Chesterton Tribune today.

He was transported to Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health in Lafayette, Norberg said.

Video from the bus indicates that Fant was wearing headphones and looking down at the time of the accident, Norberg also said.

Fantís parents have established a Facebook page, Prayers for Andrew, who was scheduled to undergo surgery around noon today.
