CHS Baseball runs win streak to 3

The Chesterton baseball team dug themselves a hole on Thursday night, but battled their way out.

The Trojans spotted Bishop Noll five unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning and came all the way back for an 8-5 non-conference win that improved them to 3-0 on the young season.

The Warriors used three walks from Chesterton starter Cameron O’Brien in the second and a pair of Trojan errors to plate their runs. Dallas Milligan would come in to straighten things out for the Trojans and work six innings, striking out two and not allowing a run.

Chesterton cracked the scoreboard with a two-out walk to Austin VanderZanden and a single by Andrew Ralph. Jordan Morandini’s double plated VanderZanden.

The rally took full effect in the fifth inning when the Trojans put seven runs on the board.

A one-out single by Corey Rusboldt got things started and Mitch Kobitz followed with a single to center. After VanderZanden was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Ralph’s fielders choice plated Rusboldt.

Morandini singled to reload the bases and Aery Pratt drew a walk to score VanderZanden. Mike Crowley ripped a double to left field to put Ralph and Morandini across home plate.

Tyler Sufana singled to right field to score Pratt and Crowley before Nate Crownover drew a walk. Rusboldt doubled to centerfield to score Sufana and the comeback was complete.

Milligan needed no more help that that as he retired 18 of the last 19 batters he faced.
