Who, What, Where, When and
Why:
How to get a news or sports story into the
printed Chesterton Tribune:
1. Show how your story connects to Duneland in the
subject line of the email and in a title line before the text.
2. Write the text in third person as close to
newspaper style as possible.
3. If a non-profit group is involved be sure to explain
how the group serves Duneland or what Duneland citizens are active in
it.
4. Be sure to include address, phone number and
email of a contact person.
5. For event coverage always put reservation
deadlines, event date, time, cost, location and who may attend near the top
of the release. Be sure and highlight any deadline for ticket sales or
reservations in a note to the editor at the top of the release.
6. For sports or youth coverage always include the
name of the coach or adult leader and the first and last names of every
child mentioned.
7. Coaches may submit statistical summaries of
games and matches including quotes from the coach on standout players and
clutch plays.
News should be submitted as text in the body of
the email or as a simple .doc file.
Photos may be attached .jpg files not linked to
text.
Photo captions should be in the body of the email
with all persons in the photo identified in the order in which they appear.
-------
News Don'ts: Don't use .pdf files, Power Point
files or other combinations of text and photos for simple press releases.
Don't use email with stationary or graphics. Large emails with lots of
graphics are more likely to slow down processing time and have compatibility
problems.
.pdf files should be reserved for paid advertisements,
or special graphics such as maps and architect plans.
------
Obituaries and Memorials: Submit death notices and memorials by email at
ads@chestertontribune.com
or phone 219 926-1131 for rates and deadlines.
------
Voice of the People letters to the editor should
include a phone number for purposes of verification (number will not be
printed). Letters should be no more than 400 words. Preference will be given
to letters by Tribune subscribers, Duneland residents or former residents.

Disclaimer: The Tribune reserves the right to
reject any submission for any reason.
